forest at night

october leaves
fey emeralds touched with red and gold
and their trees: obsidian silk strands
finely woven into a tapestry
smokey grey and grey-green
above a dark band of water
gently flowing in a lazy creek,
low now, but not quite gone.
and then the dawning of the sun.
